Max von Werz Architects is a Mexico City–based architecture practice founded in 2013, working across a wide range of scales and uses. The studio has built work in Mexico and Europe and has received numerous international awards and recognitions.
We approach each commission on its own terms, beginning with a close reading of its context, brief and constraints. Rather than working from a predetermined style, we look for clear architectural ideas that grow out of these particular conditions and can be carried consistently from the overall concept down to the smallest construction detail.
Our work combines an exploratory design process with technical rigour and extensive practical experience of how buildings are made. We work closely with clients, consultants, builders and craftspeople, maintaining a high level of personal involvement and care throughout the design and construction process. We seek to use resources responsibly and make buildings that respond thoughtfully to their surroundings and endure over time.
We aim to make architecture that integrates strong design with careful consideration of how each project is made and experienced: distinctive without being gratuitous.
Max von Werz (AA Dipl MArch ARB RIBA) studied at London’s Architectural Association, where he received the AA Diploma, and at London Metropolitan University, where he completed a master’s degree. Prior to establishing Max von Werz Architects in 2013, he worked as a project leader at David Chipperfield Architects and Tatiana Bilbao Estudio. Max was born in Montreal in 1977, raised in New York and Munich, and lives and works in Mexico City.
